Description
Uses of medication: Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication used in the treatment of several skin infections such as vaginal yeast infections, oral thrush, diaper rash, pityriasis versicolor, and types of ringworm including athlete’s foot and jock itch. The cream works by preventing the growth of fungus on the skin. This drug is also effective in the case of pityriasis (tinea versicolor) that causes darkening or lightening of skin near arms, neck, legs, and chest.
Dosage: Clean the affected area with soap and water and gently apply this medication to the skin. The cream is applied for at least twice a day for better results. However, the length of treatment depends upon the type of fungal infection. Clotrimazole cream is only for external use and does not swallow the cream as it can cause toxicity. In an event of a missed dose apply the cream as soon as you remember.
Treatment reactions: Some common side effect of clotrimazole cream on the skin include:
- Swelling
- Burning sensation
- Redness
- Severe blistering
- Pimple-like elevation
- Flaking of treated skin
- Tenderness
Warnings and precautions:
- Do not apply cream near your eyes, nose, or mouth
- Do not take other medicines while using clotrimazole cream
- Avoid wearing fitting and synthetic clothes that inhibit air circulation.
- While on pregnancy use of this cream on the skin or in the vagina is believed to be safe.
- When the cream is applied to the skin redness and burning may occur.
