Proglycem Uses
Diazoxide (Proglycem) Capsule is used in the management of hypoglycemia. It is used to manage hypoglycemia in patients with certain medical conditions such as inoperable islet cell adenoma or carcinoma, adenomatosis, and islet cell hyperplasia.
Dosage: The recommended dose of Diazoxide (25 mg and 100 mg) Capsule may be administered with or without food. The appropriate dose will be decided by your health specialist based on the severity of disease and patient’s condition. The diazoxide dose should be administered regularly and at a persistent time each day to get the maximum benefits. Don’t stop taking your dosage without asking your health specialist. In case you do, it may worsen your symptoms.
Side Effects: The most commonly reported diazoxide side effects include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Stomach pain
- Diarrhea
- Changes in sense of taste
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Anxiety
- Weakness
- Itching or skin rash
Warnings and Precautions:
- Use of diazoxide capsules in recipients with functional hypoglycemia is restricted. The medication should not be used in patients hypersensitive to diazoxide or to other thiazides.
- Therapy with Proglycem 25 mg capsule should be initiated under apt clinical supervision, with careful monitoring of blood glucose and clinical response until the patient’s condition has stabilized.
- The diazoxide 25 mg uses should be avoided in women of child-bearing age except in life-threatening situations. Proglycem capsule may pass into the breastmilk of nursing mothers.
- Patients with proglicem 25 mg capsule should be monitored periodically for blood sugar levels by the health specialist to determine the dose requirements.
