Description
Uses of medication:
Survanta contains a medicine called Beractant, which is a type of pulmonary surfactant. This substance is taken from a cow’s lungs and is used to help newborns breathe more easily. It’s specifically for premature babies who weigh 700 grams or more and are at risk of Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS). Survanta is also used for babies born before 32 weeks of pregnancy who may develop RDS and need a tube placed in their windpipe to help them breathe better.
Dosage & Side Effects:
A doctor who is experienced in giving beractant should give you this injection. It is given directly into the lungs through a tube or catheter placed in the windpipe. Your doctor will decide the right dose and how long you need treatment based on age, weight, and health condition. This medication should never be given by yourself.
The most commonly reported side effects of Beractant injection include noisy breathing, feeding or bowel problems, and bleeding around the endotracheal tube.
