Description
- adjuvant treatment of stage III colon cancer in patients who have undergone complete resection of the primary tumor.
- treatment of advanced colorectal cancer.
Following the surgical removal (resectioning) of the primary tumor, this medicine is prescribed to treat colon cancer in stage 3 and metastatic colon and rectal cancer, where the cancer has spread into other parts of the body. It is always used together with other cancer medications to ensure the best result is achieved.
Colorectal cancer has its origins in the colon or large intestine as the most chronic genetic alterations lead to this condition. It may be produced by genetic factors as well as environmental influences. Poor lifestyle choices, such as a poor diet, excessive smoking, or physical inactivity tend to increase the probability of getting this condition.
This medicine has proved particularly effective against tumors which is resistant to cisplatin therapy because it works when all other therapies have failed. This medication significantly reduces the overall amount of cancer cells in the body and the potential spread of cancer into other organs.
This medication is used by doctors together with other medicines in the course of chemotherapy to increase the chances of survival in patients and minimize relapse of the disease. Patients have to cope with nausea, fatigue, immune deficiency, and similar conditions, however, this can be controlled by their doctor. To achieve better results, the patient is required to follow a doctor’s advice and live a healthy lifestyle.
