Description

Soliris (Eculizumab) Uses

Eculizumab specifically is a complement inhibitor used for the treatment of patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) to reduce hemolysis. It is also used for the treatment of patients with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) to inhibit the complement-mediated thrombotic microangiopathy.

Dosage: The recommended eculizumab dose will be administered by your doctor or other healthcare professional by infusing a dilution of the eculizumab vial from a drip bag through a tube directly into one of your veins. It is recommended that the beginning of your treatments, called the initial phase, will extend over 4 weeks, followed by a maintenance phase.

Side Effects: The most commonly reported eculizumab side effects are: PNH: nasopharyngitis, headache, back pain, and nausea. aHUS: hypertension, upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, diarrhea, headache, anemia, vomiting, nausea, and leukopenia.

Warnings and Precautions:

  • The soliris injection is contraindicated in patients with unresolved serious Neisseria meningitidis infection.
