Description
Flunil (fluoxetine) capsules, available in 10 mg, 20 mg, and 40 mg dosage strengths, are primarily used to treat major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and panic disorder. Fluoxetine, the active ingredient, is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that helps increase the levels of serotonin in the brain, improving mood and alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety. It is also used to manage bulimia nervosa and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Flunil is prescribed under medical supervision, with dosage tailored to the patient’s condition and response to treatment.
Dosage & Side Effects:
Major depressive disorder (MDD): For major depressive disorder (MDD), the typical initial dosage of fluoxetine is 20 mg per day. The maximum advisable dosage for treating MDD is 80 mg per day. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD): In the case of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), the starting dose of fluoxetine is generally 20 mg daily, with a maintenance dose typically ranging between 20 to 60 mg daily. Panic disorder: For panic disorder, the usual starting dose is 10 mg daily. After one week, the dose may be increased to 20 mg per day, with the maximum recommended dosage being 60 mg daily.
The most common side effects of Fluoxetine capsules are nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, loss of appetite, fatigue, and headache. These side effects are generally mild but may vary.
