Description
What is sugammadex used for?
Sugammadex is prescribed for the reversal of neuromuscular blockade following administration of the aminosteroid non-depolarizing neuromuscular-blocking agents such as vecuronium or rocuronium.
Dosage: Sugammadex should be given by your anaesthetist. It should be given as a single injection through an intravenous line. Your anaesthetist will work out the sugammadex dosing you require based on your weight and how much the muscle relaxant medication is still affecting you.
Treatment Reactions: The most commonly reported sugammadex side effects may include:
- Vomiting
- Pain
- Nausea
- Hypotension
- Headache
Warnings and Precautions:
- The sugammadex dose for reversal should not be given, if you are allergic to it or any of its other ingredients.
- The use of this medication is not recommended for infants aged less than 2 years.
- Talk to your anaesthetist before sugammadex uses, inform your anaesthetist if you have had kidney disease, liver disease, fluid retention and increased risk of bleeding. Inform your anaesthetist in case you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other drugs. The sugammadex 200 mg may be responsible for affecting other drugs or be affected by them.
- It is crucial that you inform your anaesthetist in case you’ve recently taken toremifene (used to treat breast cancer) and fusidic acid (an antibiotic).
- Prior to starting treatment with bridion 200mg injection, inform your anaesthetist in case you’re pregnant or might be pregnant or if you are breast-feeding.
