General Warning: Axitinib can cause bleeding which can be serious. Call your doctor right away or seek medical help if you develop signs or symptoms of unexpected bleeding or bleeding that lasts a long time such as unusual bleeding from the gums, red or black stools, menstrual bleeding or vaginal bleeding, pink or brown urine and cough up blood or blood clots.

Axitinib uses:

Axitinib belongs to targeted therapy. It is a receptor protein kinase inhibitor and prescription medication recommended in order to treat advanced kidney cancer (advanced renal cell carcinoma or RCC) when one prior drug treatment regimen for your RCC has not worked.

Axitinib side effects:

The most common side effects of axitinib tablets are reported as follows:

  • diarrhea (frequent or loose bowel movements)
  • Tiredness or feeling weak
  • decreased appetite
  • nausea
  • hoarseness
  • rash
  • itching
  • decreased weight
  • vomiting
  • Constipation

Dosage: The initial dose is axitinib 5 mg orally twice daily. Dose adjustments should be made on behalf of individual safety as well as tolerability. Administer axitinib dose about 12 hours apart with or without food. The axitinib should be swallowed whole with the glass of water.
