Uses of medication: Xiidra (lifitegrast ophthalmic solution) 5% is used in order to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED).

Dosage: Instill one drop of Xiidra twice in a day (about 12 hours apart) into each eye using a single-use container. The single-use container should be discarded immediately following use in each eye. Contact lenses need to be removed before the administration of xiidra dosage and may be reinserted 15-minutes after administration.

Treatment Reactions: The most commonly reported lifitegrast side effects include:

  • Instillation site irritation
  • Dysgeusia
  • Decreased visual acuity

Warnings and Precautions

  • The lifitegrast ophthalmic solution should not be used by patients with the known hypersensitivity to this medication or any of its existing ingredients.
  • In order to avoid the potential for eye injury or contamination of lifitegrast ophthalmic solution 5, patients must avoid touching the tip of the single-use container to their eye or to any surface.
  • Patients should remove contact lenses before the administration of xiidra 5 eye drops and can be reinserted 15 minutes after administration.
  • Safety, as well as efficacy in pediatric patients under the age of 17-years, have not been specified.
