Description

Uses of medication: Pimavanserin (Nuplazid) specifically is an atypical antipsychotic used in order to treat hallucinations and delusions associated with Parkinson’s disease psychosis.
Dosage: The recommended dose of Nuplazid is 34mg, which should be taken orally once a day either with or without food. Nuplazid capsules should not be chewed or crushed. It should be swallowed whole.
Treatment Reactions: The most commonly reported pimavanserin side effects include:
- Peripheral Edema
- Nausea
- Confusional State
- Hallucination
- Constipation
- Gait Disturbance
Warnings and Precautions:
- The nuplazid uses should be avoided in patients with severe renal impairment.
- Nuplazid uses are contraindicated in patients with the history of hypersensitivity reactions to pimavanserin or any of its existing components.
- Use of nuplazid 34 mg is not recommended in patients with hepatic impairment.
- Concomitant use of strong/moderate CYP3A4 inducers with pimavanserin should be avoided
- The nuplazid dosing should be avoided in patients with known QT prolongation or along with other drugs known to prolong the QT interval.
- Women with childbearing potential should discuss with their healthcare practitioner before starting pimavanserin dosage.
- Patients taking this medication are advised that inform their doctor prior to breastfeeding.
