Uses of Medicine:

Nitrofurantoin tablet is supplied generically under the brand Niftas. This antibiotic medicine is primarily used for the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs), including cystitis (bladder infection) and pyelonephritis (kidney infection). This therapeutic drug is designed to work by killing the bacteria causing the infection. This oral medicine is effective against the types of bacteria commonly found in the urinary tract.

 

Dosage & Side Effects:

The recommended dosage of Nitrofurantoin is 100 mg twice daily for five days to treat lower urinary tract infections (UTIs). A 7-day course of 100 mg twice daily tablet is also considered acceptable. Prescribing nitrofurantoin treatment for less than 5 days is less effective and is no longer recommended. Dosing of this medicine for long-term prophylaxis of urinary tract infections is 50-100 mg orally once daily at bedtime

The most common side effects of Nitrofurantoin 50 mg/100 mg tablets are vomiting, nausea, loss of appetite, and diarrhea.
