Description
Uses of medication:
The MMR vaccine is recommended against measles, mumps, and rubella (German measles). This vaccine also can be recommended in those who do not have evidence of immunity, those with the well-controlled HIV/AIDS, and within 72 hours of the exposure to the measles among all those patients who are incompletely immunized.
Dosage of MMR Vaccine:
The initial dose is given by injection to children around 9 month to 15 months of age, with a second dose at 15 months to 6 years of age, with the minimum 4 weeks between the doses. In case of a missed and overdose interact with your healthcare provider.
Treatment Reactions:The most commonly reported side effects of MMR vaccine include:
- Fever
- Pain
- Joint pain
- Severe allergic reactions
- Redness at the injection site
The side effects due to immunization are generally mild and usually go away without any specific treatment.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Pregnancy is not recommended for 3 months after the vaccination.
- Women of child bearing age should be tested for the rubella antibodies before pregnancy.
- Vaccine recipients should attempt in order to avoid contact for up to 6 weeks, where possible, with immunocompromised individuals who are susceptible to the varicella.
- The vaccinees must be monitored for the fever during the risk period ranging from 5-12 days after the vaccination.
- Patients who have experienced anaphylaxis after the egg ingestion should be vaccinated very carefully.
