Description
Zaltrap Injection Uses
Zaltrap (Ziv-Aflibercept), in combination with 5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, irinotecan- (FOLFIRI), is used for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) that is resistant to or has progressed following an oxaliplatin-containing regimen.
Dosage: Administer aflibercept 4 mg per kg as an intravenous (IV) infusion over 60 minutes every two weeks. Administer aflibercept prior to any component of the FOLFIRI regimen on the day of treatment. Continue aflibercept until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity.
Side Effects: The most commonly reported zaltrap side effects (≥20% incidence)are:
- Leukopenia
- Diarrhea
- Neutropenia
- Proteinuria
- AST increased
- Stomatitis
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Thrombocytopenia
- ALT increased
- Hypertension
- Weight decreased
- Decreased appetite
- Epistaxis
- Abdominal pain
- Dysphonia
- Serum creatinine increased
Warnings and Precautions:
- Monitor patients for signs/symptoms of bleeding. Do not initiate zaltrap 25 mg injection therapy in patients with severe hemorrhage.
- Monitor patients for signs/symptoms of GI perforation. Discontinue eylea injection therapy in patients who experience GI perforation.
- Monitor blood pressure every two weeks or more frequently as clinically indicated during treatment with aflibercept injection.
- Monitor proteinuria by urine dipstick analysis or urinary protein creatinine ratio (UPCR) for the development or worsening of proteinuria while on aflibercept therapy.
- Monitor CBC with differential count at baseline and prior to initiation of each cycle of aflibercept 25 mg injection.
- Females of reproductive potential should use effective contraception during treatment with aflibercept and for 1 month following the final dose.
- Women should not breastfeed during treatment with aflibercept and for 1 month following the final dose.
